Professional facilitator, Kate Dornan
Kate joined Anam Cara in 2017 when she first facilitated the Armagh Support Group. She now facilitates the Face-to-Face Parents’ Meetings in Belfast and the Ulster Online Support Group.
Her professional background is social work. Prior to joining Anam Cara, she had over 20 years’ experience in palliative care services in Belfast, where she worked at the N I Hospice and the Marie Curie Hospice. There she ran bereavement groups and residential weekends for adults and children and provided individual bereavement support.
She also worked for 13 years within the fostering service and has always been moved by the resilience shown by foster-carers and children alike, as they encountered many aspects of grief and loss.
Over the years, Kate has had the privilege to meet many parents who have experienced the devastating pain of losing a child and she is acutely aware of the unique nature of their grief. She continues to be both humbled and inspired by the support that parents offer to each other within the Anam Cara Groups.
